In this 2 hour workshop, students will learn techniques to create a ‘possibles bag,’ ‘medicine bag,’ or leather ‘pouch.’ Instructor Dora Gonzalez will help students learn how to wield the variety of tools used for cutting leather, etc. safely, as sharp tools are a part of working with this art form. She will cover types of leathers and skins and will teach students how to identify a variety of leathers and select the right leather to work with for a particular project. Students will learn how to make ‘string’ out of leather and then engage in leather lacing, leather sewing, leather braiding and/or leather hole-punching during the construction of their selected project for this class.
Dora will share stories about the surprising, historical usages of these ‘possibles bags’ and will offer individualized guidance for each student’s work.
The minimum age for participation in this class is 12 with parent approval. This class is suitable for beginning level students.
