In this workshop, Joe Gallagher will teach participants to investigate,  repair and maintain log structures. The class will consist of 2 to 3 hours of daily lectures covering these issues and 3 to 4 hours a day of hands on activities. Attendees may bring digital images of their building’s problem.


Lecture topics consist of: decay and deterioration causes; hewing, notching and installing logs, appropriate finishes/coatings for log buildings; proper maintenance for log structures; foundations, roofs, and the big picture. Each lecture has a Q and A opportunity.

Registration fee of $37.75 is due when you sign up for this class


Class Fee of $200 is due directly to Mr. Gallagher at the beginning of class. Payment (check; money order; purchase order; no credit cards) will be collected the first day of class. Make checks/money orders payable to Heritage Preservation Resources.


All students should bring a tool bag with: one flat bar-super bar-wonder bar (has different names). A pointing trowel (4′-5′); a 25-30′ tape measure; one tool box saw; one hammer; note taking equipment.


Students can have a lot more than this but these are minimums. the tool bag can be a bag or bucket.

Maximum class size: 15. The class will begin at noon on October 22 and end at noon on October 25 to allow for participant travel time.
