Quick & Easy “Orange Peel” Quilt

-Taught by Daphne Higginbotham

The “Quick & Easy Orange Peel” is a quilt-as-you-go style. This pattern resembles a Cathedral Window, but is much easier to make, no hand-stitching required. Choose your own colorway and bring your own fabric. This is a great project to use up your scrap fabrics. If you want the Cathedral window look, choose jewel tone fabrics. If you want a softer look, choose fabrics that compliment your color scheme. The backing fabric will show on the front of your quilt, so keep that in mind.

There is no pattern to buy and you will bring your own quilting supplies. A throw size is ideal for this retreat, but you can make any size you want. This is an easy pattern to make, but it does require time, and you’ll want to finish it, if possible.

12” Pineapple Paper Piecing Quilt

Taught by Rita Madson

Although this quilt may look difficult, paper piecing is a great way for beginners to learn yet challenging enough for the intermediate quilter. Advanced quilters will enjoy the speed and ease of this pattern.

Traditionally the Pineapple Quilt was sewn in yellows and greens but this pattern looks great with pastels, jewel tones, batiks, and even Christmas colors. Whether using fabric from your stash or buying new, you’ll love the outcome.

A package of 20 blocks for $12 is required for this class. Cutting requires squares and strips and the finished quilt measures 48 x 60 inches.  Additional packages will be available for those wanting a larger quilt or purchase additional fabric for borders.

Arkansas Roads String Quilt  – taught by Nancy Snyder and Jennifer Whitman

There is no greater way to clean out that box of leftover scraps and bits than to convert them into a beautiful, eye-popping string quilt! This class will be taught by Nancy Snyder and Jennifer Whitman using techniques from Nancy Zieman’s book String Quilt Revival. You will be making a small version of the “Arkansas Traveler/Arkansas Roads” quilt designed by Genevieve Dawson who ran the OFC Quilt Shop in years past. The bulk of the work will be done on a sewing machine, but there is some hand-piecing required for the curvy road parts.

Supplies will be provided, including a special no-show mesh stabilizer, acrylic rulers and templates, cotton batting, straight pins, scissors and the pattern. Fabric is also provided, but if you have a certain color scheme in mind, feel free to bring something from your own “stash.”
